Stretch marks, what is it?

Medically, stretch marks known as "striae gravidarum". Caused by excessive stretching of the skin. Pregnancy, sudden addition or reduction of weight and puberty were the usual causes of stretch marks.

Three layers of skin: the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous stratum (innermost layer). Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the elastic middle layer that helps the skin to keep it in shape. When the dermis is constantly stretched that over time, the skin becomes less elastic and the small connective fibers that are broken here. The result is called stretch marks.

Who's affected it?

Almost half of expectant women and teenagers may have stretch marks. The pregnant women start to develop marks on the abdomen during the second half of their pregnancy because the skin elastic to accommodate the growing fetus. The reddish-brown pigmentation in the marks gradually disappear, the stretch marks or "striae" begin to appear shiny silvery lines of scar tissue.

If your weight does not change, you will not have stretch marks. But if your weight is dynamic (suddenly fat or skinny), you will have it.
